For years I’ve followed Nick Vujicic, best-selling author, evangelist and inspirational speaker, via his books and videos on YouTube.  I even had the privilege of hearing Nick speak last December in Taiwan and got a VIP pass to speak with him afterwards in the VIP room.  I’ve been inspired by how God has done some pretty incredible and even seemingly impossible things in Nick’s life.

Which leads me to his release Love Without Limits.  In this incredible book, Nick and his lovely wife Kanae dive into their amazing love story which God penned for them.  The book overflows with Nick’s humor and wit, as well as Kanae’s gentle, kindle words.  If you’re like many people, you’re probably curious how a man with no arms or legs got married (you definitely gotta read the book!).  Even Nick himself struggled for years, as he shares, with his dream of getting married.  He felt sure no woman would want a man with such physical limits.  Yet God, in His faithfulness and goodness, decided to give His child such a marriage.

Love Without Limits is that story, in all honesty and vulnerability.  It’s also filled with tips on everything from love to a newborn baby to communication between couples.  There were several times I thought Nick could have been stronger in pointing out things from his faith, but overall I give it a 4.5 out of 5.  It’s good, really good.  Plus, with a love story like Nick and Kanae’s you can’t help but be inspired!

9781601426611“God Gave Us Angels” is a beautiful, truth-filled book for little ones.  Lisa Tawn Bergren writes in a clear, lovely way which brings the topic of angels into an easy-to-understand manner for kids.  Artist Laura J. Bryant does a fabulous job of portraying each scene with the Bear family with whimsical touches.  Children will be delighted with her artwork and beg to look over it again and again! (I’ll admit it – I kept going through the pages myself, it’s that cute and lovely!)

One of the best features of this sweet storybook is the truths Bergren includes throughout the book like gold nuggets.  For example, when Little Cub asks Papa Bear if they should pray to angels, Papa Bear replies wisely with “Angels are God’s servants.  He’s their boss.  We should pray only to God, because he is the one who tells them what to do.”

Bergren includes Scriptural truths like this one and many others scattered throughout the whole book.  I really appreciated this aspect of the story because it opens the door to sharing the Bible’s timeless truths with your children.  They’re bound to be curious and ask countless questions about angels and Bergren expertly crafts this book to answer those questions.

“God Gave Us Angels” is a wonderful book – and resource – to lead children to a clearer understanding of God, who He is, and what He says about those mysterious beings called angels.  I have no doubt that this lovely, kid-friendly, Bible-truth-telling storybook will become a favorite with little ones and not-so-little-ones alike!

John Piper’s January release, “A Godward Heart”, is a collection of 50 short meditations on various topics.  His subtitle states “Treasuring the God Who Loves You” and this book truly does that.  Each meditation is filled with Scriptural truths and the Word itself.  He discusses a variety of subjects, including seeking God, politics and what they really mean, God’s sovereignty in the midst of trials, and how Paul worked to overcome slavery (see, your interest is sparked already!).

One of the great things about Piper’s meditations is that he doesn’t just write them plain and dry – he fills them with God’s precious Word and with ways the Lord has been working in his own personal life.  Additionally, Piper makes sure that his writing isn’t “fluffy”, or just meaningless, empty chatter.  He takes hard questions or controversial subjects and drives the reader to the Scriptures in each case.  Plus, Piper writes from a very theological standpoint, making the reader come away with actual food for thought and ways to grow in his or her walk with Jesus.

So is John Piper’s “A Godward Heart” like many of the other devotional books out there nowadays?  You know, the ones which advertise fast reading – five minutes a day or maybe even just three minutes!  Definitely not – and that’s a good thing.  If you’re looking for an easy, fluffy, it-means-nothing-kind-of-book, don’t read this.  For the believer who really wants to go deeper, to take up his cross daily and truly know Christ, this is the book for you. Because Piper’s book is powerful and thought-provoking!

I’ve hugged international speaker and evangelist Nick Vujicic. He came to Taiwan and I had the privilege of briefly speaking with him as well, so I was pretty excited about reading his new release, “Unstoppable”! Nick is the founder of the Life Without Limbs Ministry ( http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org). He’s also known as the man with no arms and legs, yet he surfs, swims, writes with his mouth and does a whole host of almost physically defying feats. He travels around the world in pursuit of sharing God’s love and hope. In his second book, “Unstoppable”, Nick candidly shares his joys, challenges and trials that God has brought him through.

A great resource in “Unstoppable”, Nick covers areas such as bullying, suicide, and injustice. He gives clear advice, Scriptural backing, and stories from others who have gone through these struggles. Having once attempted suicide himself and suffered from bullying growing up, Nick shares from his heart on how God pulled him out of the pit and brought him into His marvelous light. He shares how you can fight and defeat these trials yourself, always reminding you that God is with you each step of the way.

Not only does Nick share about his struggles, but he also gives readers a glimpse of what a “ridiculously” good life looks like, as he calls it. If you want to be inspired to put action to your faith and really live out God’s calling on your life, then “Unstoppable” is definitely for you! Be prepared to laugh, cry, and get your faith in the action after this read!

Davis Bunn writes with an intensity and brilliance of an author who knows how to skillfully weave together a magnificent story. He has created a beautiful masterpiece in his newest release Strait of Hormuz, the third and final in the Marc Royce series. From page one, Bunn provides a suspense filled read that follows Marc Royce, former US Intelligence Operative, on a secret mission in foreign soil.

I think that one of the best things about Strait of Hormuz is the strong character, integrity, and honor of the hero, Marc Royce. All too often we see weak, pitiful effimate versions of men in books, movies, and the media in general. Thankfully, Bunn raises the bar and creates his hero as a strong, manly man who loves Christ and seeks to serve others.

Bunn’s Strait of Hormuz is a piece of literature that most can only dream about writing. Davis Bunn hits a homerun with his newest work. A truly exciting and worthwhile read!
